Deformers

deformersAs the name suggest, deformers deform the geometry of the object. There are a lot of deformers as you can see in the picture on the left, however I will only be explaining the Bend, Bulge,  Twist and Explosion.

cube i will be using the same cube for all my examples. By choosing a cube from the Priitives, I then increase the nuber of segments from the Object tab. This will help the square to curve and adapt to the derformer shape even better. In order to view the segments you then hae to enable the Gouraud Shading.

BEND

This bends an object.

bend in red
Select Bend from the Deformers menu
Then drop the Bend into the Cube
Then drop the Bend into the Cube
This creates a purple box around the object called the Deformer Box. Make sure that the object is in the centre of the deformer box. If it isn't the bend will not work!

And orange dot will appear if you select the Bend in the Object Manager. Grab that dot and pull in any direction

And that creates your bend!
And that creates your bend!

You can also limit the amount of bend in an object by scaling the bend. I used a cylinder from the Primitives as an example because it is a better way of showing you.

Here we can see that the deformer box is covering the whole cylinder

Therefore, the whole cylinder bends over!

However, here the derformer box has been scaled down so that only the middle bit of the cylinder will be effected

As you can see the ends of the cylinder have not bent at all!

BULGE

This makes an object bulge or contract.

Choose Bulge from the Deformers menu
Choose Bulge from the Deformers menu
Choose Bulge from the Deformers menu
And then drag the Bulge into the Cube
Then depending how you drag the orange dot, you either contract or bulge out the cube!

TWIST

This twists the object around its Y-axis.

Choose Twist from the Deformers menu
Choose Twist from the Deformers menu
And then put the twist in the cube
And then put the twist in the cube
And then grab the orange dot and pull away from the object making it twist!

EXPLOSION

This explodes and object into multiple polygons.

Choose Explosion from the Deformers menu
Choose Explosion from the Deformers menu
And drop the Explosion into the Cube
And drop the Explosion into the Cube
And as you drag the orange dot, the cube slowly explodes. The further you drag the more it disperses!
